Shorter Wedding Dresses

Ball gowns with big beautiful full skirts are definitely gorgeous, but not really practical if you want to dance or move around a lot at your wedding reception. Many brides are choosing bridal gowns that are a little shorter (tea length) or a lot shorter (just above the knee). Though they aren’t very traditional, they are definitely more comfortable.

A few years back, I went to a wedding where the bride had a wedding gown that had a removable bottom portion of the skirt. During the wedding ceremony, it looked like a beautiful floor-length sheath gown with a cascading train. However right before the reception began, she removed the bottom portion of the dress from just above the knee down. She was then wearing a sexy, strapless number that was much more comfortable and carefree.

Personally, I’m more of a traditionalist — so I like full-length wedding gowns. But I can definitely see the merit of a shorter one. What do you think? Would you wear a shorter dress for your wedding?

  1. I totally agree… Sometimes those crazy ball gowns just end up dirty, tattered, and restricting your evening as a bride. I kind of wish I opted for a shorter dress.

I don’t know how to add a picture (so I’ll just show you the link), but check out this brides dress. It’s the best of both worlds, sort of classic, but also trendy and cut off above the knee.
