This is not your grandmother’s moneybox! More and more couples are preferring cash gifts these days – probably because carrer-oriented brides and grooms already own most of the household items they will require. The market is responding by providing a greater variety of styles and ready-to-purchase products, online and offline. Check out these elegant wedding money boxes – they would look perfect anywhere!

The Traditionalist

Nothing ultra-modern here… just classic elegant styling, leaning towards the ornate

The Minimalist

This is rather more spartan. Clean lines, less decoration and embellishments, this money box would look more at home in an urban-style wedding – perhaps in a Gallery?

The.. “Ornamentalist”?

Well, there will be no doubt, that this was at a wedding Wouldn’t this look great at your receiving table though? The money box woudl be effectively be part of the decor..

Cinderella Bride

For your fairytale wedding! Especially intimate affairs.. not too big, but definitely makes a statement!

Jewelry, perfume and makeup are always good choices when looking for gifts for your bridemaids. But there are other gift ideas, which are a little more unique. If you are having trouble choosing gifts for your bridesmaid or maid of honor, consider these ideas:

Image: sxc.hu

Tickets to a play or sporting event

Gift certificates to a movie theatre

Video games or DVDs

Spa gift certificates

Silk pajamas or a robe

A painting or vase for her home

A set of luxury sheets or towels

A designer clutch

A cappucino maker

Kitchen tools, if she loves to cook

Gardening tools, if she loves to garden

A gym membership, if she loves to workout

Don’t think you have to give each of your bridesmaids the same gift. They are all individuals. So pick a gift that is specifically suited to their hobbies, personalities and needs.

Try to buy something that you know they won’t splurge on for themselves. Whether you spend $30 or $300, it doesn’t matter. As long as the gift is thoughtful and useful!

My Pink Apron in North York.

If you into wedding traditions, you will undoubtedly want to save the top tier of your wedding cake to share with your husband on your first anniversary. When preserving your cake, keep in mind that all cakes are not created equal. Cakes with whipped cream or fresh fruit filling won’t last compared to fondant icing, chocolate cake or carrot cake.

Assign a Cake Monitor
At your wedding reception, make sure the caterer (or whoever is handling the cake) knows to set aside the top tier. Ask your maid of honor or your bridesmaid to be responsible to make sure the tier gets home.

Prep for Freezing
Before freezing, remove sugar flowers and other adornments. Chill the cake overnight in the cake box before wrapping it. This will help set the icing so it won’t stick to the wrap.

Wrap It Up
The next day, wrap the cake in three layers plastic wrap. Don’t use aluminum foil. Place the wrapped cake inside an air-tight freezer bag. Put in safe spot in the freezer.

Celebrate
The night before your anniversary, unwrap the cake and place in the refrigerator to defrost. Enjoy your cake with your hubby after your anniversary meal.

Or, if all of this is too much trouble, just go out for cheesecake.

When a friend of mine got engaged, her fiance gave her an engagement watch instead of an engagement ring. At the time, I thought it was so bizarre. Not very romantic and who uses a watch these days? Everyone tells time by their cell phones. But it was perfect for her – she considered it practical, stylish and sophisticated.

Lately I have been hearing about more and more couples who are bucking tradition and skipping the engagement ring altogether. When money is tight, it might actually make sense. You can put a couple thousand dollars toward a house, honeymoon or the wedding itself instead of diamond bauble. Definitely practical but certainly not romantic.

So, what do you think? Do you love the tradition of the engagement ring? Or would you rather your husband-to-be got down on one knee and presented you with airline tickets or a savings account deposit slip?
